Dance Party Playlist

January 25th, 2009 — 04:08 pm

Sometimes dance parties just happen, especially in dorm buildings around midnight…here are some of my favorite (although slightly embarrassing) dance party worthy songs!

1. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

Oh come on, you knew this was coming, its the quintessential girl power dance song.

2. Kids by MGMT

This song is on a constant loop through my head, its beat just compels you to move.

3. Take A Chance On Me (and Mama Mia) by ABBA

What’s a dance party without ABBA really? Its embarrassing but everyone knows it and secretly loves it.

4. Dancin’ With Myself by Billy Idol

The name explains it all really…

5. 1999 by Prince

Prince is fabulous, this song is so perfectly dance worthy. So perfectly Prince.

6. Wannabe by Spice Girls

Remember this? Yeahh early 90’s. Alright so I was maybe 7 when I first heard this song? I can’t actually remember, but I do remember dancing around to it. And despite that being like what, 11 years ago? I still dance around to this song.

7. Like a Virgin by Madonna

Oh Madonna, you complete me.

8. I Think We’re Alone Now by Tiffany

I remember being in middle school, dancing around my room to this song with Maryclare right as we were discovering it and other musical gems from the 80’s.

9. The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats

This is a homage to one of my best friends, Michelle, this gets stuck in her head with disturbing frequency, and it always sparks impromptu dance parties no matter where we are.

10. What I Like About You by The Romantics

This is the kind of song that you dance to sort of spastically while shaking your hair around a lot.

Friday Fives #5

January 23rd, 2009 — 06:50 pm

Getting back into the groove of school is hard after you’ve been off for 6 weeks, so this week I’m bringing you my  five of the things I’ve done this week to ease back into a school routine!

1. Get back on a decent sleep schedule

This was the hardest for me, I’m a night owl and could easily be up all night and then sleep all day, but since now I have all 9am classes I took the two days before classes started to get myself back into the habit of sleeping at night and getting up in the morning.

2. Drink water

This might sound weird, its not like you’re sick and ned fluids but I always find that I get dehydrated during the day at school, and then this is turn makes me very very sleepy. So pack some water bottles and stay hydrated!

3. Eat Snacks

This is on the same lines as the water, I also forget to eat a lot when I’m busy with classes so I always make sure to pack snacks so even if I don’t have time for lunch I still have something to keep me going.

4. Write lists

Its hard to remember everything you need to do, or the whole laundry list of books and supplies you need to get. So currently I have three lists, a to-do list, a list of books to buy and a list of art supplies I need. I also find that waiting until the weekend after the first week, once you have had all your classes once is the best time to buy books and supplies, its easiest to just make a list and get them all at once instead of getting stuff each day and then trying to remember what you already bought and such.

5. Be early

The first week I always make sure I am early, this gives you time to make sure you know where your class is being held, and that you know how to get there, and it also gives you some time to grab breakfast!

Back to school, back to school…

January 22nd, 2009 — 04:28 am

My posting has been less frequent in the past week due to starting up classes again, I’ve got all 9 am classes, which is proving to be very hard for me because I am just not a morning person at all. However my schedule is looking pretty good, Tuesday and Thursday I’ve got web design, which will be the hardest of all my classes this semester, I had the same teacher last semester and she is tough. Tuesday afternoon I have art hist…which is looking to be considerably more interesting than last semesters art hist. Thursday afternoon I have English, which I haven’t had yet but the course topic is “Tourism In Question” which I think could be pretty interesting. Wednesday I have a 6 hour collage studio with Carlos…which is amazing, I’m telling you, this is going to the best class, I’m finally feeling inspired to make work again not to mention Carlos is awesome, I had his painting class last semester. And finally Friday is the second semster of freshman Contemporary Practices, which will no doubt be another pointless Friday spent in the lecture hall. So do forgive me for the less frequent posts but expect to see some new work up soon!

3. Apocalypse sculptures…new art like this always piques my interest.

4. Light Graffiti! This is interested to see that people really do this as art since my friends and I just always mess around with our cameras doing stuff like this.

Artist Quote

January 15th, 2009 — 03:32 am

“I passionately hate the idea of being with it, I think an artist has always to be out of step with his time.” -Orson Welles

Right now this quote speaks to me a lot, I am sort of at an in-between place with my art and unsure of what direction to go in, make me realize I need to stop thinking and worrying about it so much and just create stuff and not care about being “with it”.

Crissy Field (and the weather from heaven)

January 15th, 2009 — 03:28 am

The blog updating hasn’t been happening as frequently, and I do apologize, I am trying to enjoy my last few days before classes start on the 20th and just trying to enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having. This picture was taken at Crissy Field, a place down by the Marina in San Francisco, its absolutely breathtaking.
